FIXED FEES FOR SPECIFIED WORK
Flat fees further certainty in the client's budgeting. In addition to our special fixed-fee packages for startups, other matters are also occasionally appropriate for flat-rate billing. I offer fixed-rate billing for many services, including business transactions and business contracts that most corporate lawyers would not consider doing on a fixed-fee basis.
In exchange for a single, certain, fixed fee, all lawyer time is included for a specified transaction, contract, or other agreed upon task or matter. I can offer flat-rate billing to advise and represent you in connection with many common transactions and documents, including the following:

- Mergers & Acquisitions
- Corporate Finance deals
- Buy-sell agreements, NDA's, and other Contracts
- Business formations and internal governance documents
- Intellectual Property services and documents
- Startup services
- Other services and agreements
HYBRID FLAT/HOURLY & CAPPED HOURLY
Sometimes, it may be difficult to get a sense of the scope of work required for a matter. But, there still remains a desire to avoid purely hourly billing on the part of the client, while the lawyer feels a need to hedge against the risk of a flat fee set too low for a deal that may take on a life of its own.
In such a case, we may be able to set a flat fee that will apply to lawyer time incurred up to a specified number of hours. Normally, this would be a number which, if met and not exceeded, results in an effective discount to what would have resulted under a purely hourly rate billing model. If the matter requires time that exceeds that number of hours, the additional time incurred is billed hourly, but at a significant discount from the hourly rate.
Another hybrid approach appropriate for a matter that is complex and which may involve contentious negotiations or other uncertainties is to bill at an hourly rate, but to set a cap, so that your total fee will never be more than that cap. Because this necessarily entails some risk to the lawyer, it may include a premium.
